DuraBond / COLORBOND® Steel Gates
Supplied via DuraBond, Colorbond® steel gates bring the same non-combustible fire performance as the fence system to gated openings in the 0–5 ft Zone 0 area.
What it is
COLORBOND® steel gate infill uses the BlueScope Steel Australia material supplied in the United States by DuraBond, which identifies itself as the official U.S. distributor. A fabricated gate also includes its own frame, hinges, latch, posts, and installation details, so fence-panel evidence alone does not establish the performance of the complete gate assembly.
Why steel suits the 0–5 ft zone
DuraBond states "Class A fire performance under ASTM E84" and describes the material as "non-combustible and does not ignite or contribute fuel to fire spread." BlueScope's fencing page states steel fencing "offers greater protection… against bushfire than other alternative materials because of its non-combustibility."
How we apply this to gates; stated plainly:
The OSFM Building Materials Listing program includes an ignition-resistant-material category and at least one steel fencing product. We have not found a listing for a Colorbond fence or gate assembly, so this page does not present Colorbond as OSFM-listed for that use.
Certification language, exact: manufactured to AS/NZS 1397/2728, standards the supplier describes as comparable to ASTM A792/A653. We do not state or imply that Colorbond is ASTM-listed.
BAL-FZ scope limit: BlueScope publishes BAL-FZ ratings for some of its products, but that rating names roofing, walling, and gutters specifically; not fencing or gates. We do not use any BAL-FZ rating language from BlueScope on this page, because it would misrepresent the source.
Gate-specific verification
Ask the contractor to identify the exact infill, frame, posts, hinges, latch, gaps, and attachment method proposed. Confirm which published test or listing applies to those components and whether the local authority has additional gate or access requirements. Firewise does not treat a fence-material result as certification of a complete fabricated gate.
Gate hardware
Hardware is project-specific. A written proposal should identify the gate frame, post dimensions, hinge and latch system, opening width, clearances, corrosion protection, and any self-closing, access, or emergency requirements imposed by the applicable authority.
Warranty
10-year material warranty, per DuraBond. BlueScope's own public materials do not state a U.S. fencing warranty duration; the 10-year figure is attributed to DuraBond specifically. Note that repainting may void the manufacturer warranty, per DuraBond.
